Mission:

At Koda Wear, our mission is to provide high quality, long lasting clothing while minimizing our impact on the environment. We use only the highest quality materials, from sustainable sources, manufactured in a responsible manner. And to give back; a portion of all proceeds go to protecting and restoring our oceans for future generations.

Historically, the clothing industry has had an extremely negative impact on our planet and the people who inhabit it. There are literally millions of children around the world working in appalling conditions in the clothing industry, and the industries impact on the environment puts every one of us at risk. A report by Business Insider states: “Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. What's more, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. And washing some types of clothes sends thousands of bits of plastic into the ocean. The fashion industry emits more carbon than international flights and maritime shipping combined.”

Minimizing Our Impact:

The sewing and cutting facilities for our clothing are run on solar power, utilizing sky lights and LED lighting to minimize energy consumption. The buildings are also insulated in a way that allows for minimal artificial heating and cooling, further reducing impact to the environment.

Our fabric is dyed in state-of-the-art dye houses, which use 7x less water than the average clothing manufacturer. The dyes used in our clothing are bluesign® certified, which guarantees they are eco-friendly. Once a process is complete, the water and dyes are separated; the water is then recycled through an in-house filtration system and reused, rather than being dumped into rivers or oceans. The dye waste is then burned at a high temperature in a self-contained environment, allowing for no smoke stacks or pollution to be emitted into the air. We take every opportunity to reduce our CO2 emissions and minimize our carbon footprint.

Even the inks we use for our printed designs are eco-friendly. They are Diethylene Glycol-free and meet the requirements of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for human ecological requirements of Class 1 products for adults, children, and babies.

QUALITY:

We use the highest quality combed and ring-spun cotton you can get, period.

Our clothing has 2.5x more impurities removed than standard ring-spun cotton through an extensive combing process.

Our clothing is made with long cotton staples, which means there are less stray fibers when the yarn is spun, resulting in a smoother surface.

Our fabric is dyed using the most eco-friendly dyes and 7x less water than the average garment manufacturer.
